I hadn't been to a zoo in many years, but with three generations of family, including my sister's three young children, it seemed like a good thing to do. Turns out I was probably just as excited by the animal exhibits as the kids. Pictured below: a bald eagle; a meerkat standing sentry; penguins. The two critters riding tortoise sculptures in the fourth photo are my niece and nephew. Below that is your humble blogger, allowing a thick pane of plexiglass to create the illusion of proximity to tigers.

1. that eagle is frickin amazing...it looks like a cartoon!
2. i look at those turtle shots and you know what i think? i think "what the hell is that little white box in the background for?"
3. that tiger shot is funny! it would be really great if he were looking at the camera too. like, not at you, but at the camera as he stood behind you. damn. any chance of a reshoot?

Is it safe for your nephew to be covering the tortoise's eyes like that? What if it crashes into something?

Nezua, the white box definitely has a sinister look about it... ;-)
Eli, you're right, my nephew is clearly a risk-taking type, probably shooting for a medal in the X-treme Tortoise Ride event at the X Games.

Hey, Kai.
What's up with the shades?!
By the way, beautiful photos, especially of the eagle. Looks like you're almost close enough to touch it. And the penguins, always one of my favorite group of animals.
